Birmingham Association of Neighbourhood Forums [BANF]
Neighbourhood forums are community groups run by and for local people. They provide an opportunity to discuss and influence the issues that affect local communities, such as:
community safety and crime education
environmental issues
health and social issues housing
local economy
transport

Neighbourhood forums can campaign on these issues and make representations to ward advisory boards and district partnerships, etc. Neighbourhood forums themselves decide the area they will cover. Usually this is an area that forms a 'natural' neighbourhood, which can be as few as 500 or up to as many as 5,000 households. The area can cross ward boundaries if necessary. With more than 70 neighbourhood forums based throughout the city, they are ideally placed to offer unrivalled local knowledge and understanding. Birmingham City Council is moving to devolve decision-making, budgets and some services to eleven 'districts'. Neighbourhood forums and the local knowledge they represent can make a big difference by ensuring that the districts' spending and priorities reflect the needs of local people.

Birmingham City Council - External Funding Support
The Council has now established the External Funding Support to enable local community groups to make the best use of the many different sources of funding available. A significant factor in the provision of this service is the ability to tap into external funding sources to support local priorities and help communities to grow and prosper. External Funding Support makes information electronically available on many external funding sources, e.g. regional funders, grant updates, tips for your funding application and areas of good practice etc, which is accessible by all. We also produce a Newsletter on a monthly basis where alongside news about funding streams we advertise successful projects. You can find the Newsletter (current and previous editions) at the end of this page and download it or you can e-mail the External Funding Support Team to add you on the mailing list. Grantnet is a user friendly database which has been specifically devised to allow people to identify funding sources available to community, voluntary and other organisations.
